Propellers
Features All our propellers are made in the United States. They are investment cast using the lost-wax process. They are bored and balanced to give smooth, vibration free performance.
The finish is exceptionally smooth, free of pits, holes and other surface irregularities typically associated with sand cast versions being imported from the Far East.
Prop R Mix offers three bladed propellers in square pitch and steep pitch configurations. Left hand models are stocked in sizes from 2.5" in diameter to 17". A limited number of right hand models are included.
Also supplied are non-fouling (weedless) designs. These props are designed to mix fluid with high fibrous content. The prop's leading edge prevents material from building up on the blade and overloading the mixer or aerator. Two blade versions are standard, with a limited number of three bladed sizes offered.
Material of Construction of stocked propellers is 316 Stainless Steel. We will quote on orders of six or more for Carbon Steel, Bronze, Aluminum, Carpenter 20, Hastelloy and Titanium.
Standard Surface Finish is either glass beaded or a low luster as-cast finish. See below for option finishes.
Mounting - Prop R Mix supplies as standard either a single set screw (sizes 2.5 - 6") or two set screws for 7" diameter and up to secure the prop to a shaft. Competitive models are often furnished with protruding square head screws that can catch stringy or fibrous materials that build up on the prop producing vibration and can possibly overload the motor.
On an optional basis we can supply a keyway or a combination of a set screw mounted over a keyway for added security.

Options
Prop R Mix will provide turned or tip-trimmed props for draft tube applications.
For mixing solutions containing fibrous or stringy materials that are undesirable, Prop R Mix can provide propellers with saw tooth edges that will "chop" or breakup the material during the mixing process.
A No. 4 or No. 8 polished finish is optional for food or pharmaceutical applications. Pricing will vary based on quanitiy and propeller size.
Custom designs are also available. Prop R Mix will design and construct the necessary molds to your exact specifications. In which case, the molds are proprietary to your company and will only be used for your requirements.

TERMINOLOGY The following are often used terms in describing Propellers.
Pitch- This defines the angle of the blade and its relationship to the diameter of the propeller. For industrial applications either a square pitch or steep pitch (sometimes refered to as "super pitch") is used. In terms of pitch ratios, the above are often refered to as 1.0 and 1.5 pitch respectively.
Hand- Propellers are either "Left Hand" or "Right Hand". When the propeller is viewed from the blade edge or its side, the blade is angled upward to the left (Left Hand) or upward to the right (Right Hand). See illustration.
Generally a 1.5 or steep pitch prop will produce 50 to 75% higher flow than a square pitch. However, it requires twice the horsepower for a given shaft speed.
In 95% of industrial mixing applications, a left handed propeller is used in conjunction with the mixer shaft turning clockwise (viewed from the motor end). This creates a downward flow to produce optimal tank turnover or mixing. If the motor is wired to run counter clockwise the pumping direction is upward. In a limited number of applications, such as draft tubes, this is desirable. A right hand propeller performs just the opposite - upward for clockwise rotation and downward for counter-clockwise rotation.
